BILL BROWN learning to learn about parent engagement in lifelong &lifewide learning

SOME ASSERTIONS BASED ON A SYNTHESIS OF EVIDENCE CONSIDERED
Reflection
I wrote BUSINESS PRACTICE-AN ADJACENT KNOWLEDGE DOMAIN TO INFORM THE DESIGN OF ---- NEXT PRACTICE EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP CAPABILITIES in December 2009 as a report on the consultancy brief to identify leadership performance strengths of an excellent principal . Document analysis and interviews with focus groups of parents, students staff ,supervisors and peers provided an evidence base that affirmed valued leadership behaviours AND identified "preferred next practice performance"- In my view, much of the the feedback was clearly framed within the educational leadership literature. I added this resource to reframe the strategic questions worth asking about "So What" and "Now what ?" to disrupt current thinking by using business exemplars to reframe the leadership lense.
It provides an interesting benchmark to reflect on the filters (conscious /unconscious) I percieved to be relevant at that time

Need Seekers. These companies understand the importance of developing strong relationships with customers — they rely more heavily on customer observation
Market Readers. These companies face a different strategic challenge. Their goal is to find ideas that lie within their business expertise, which they can then develop into incrementally improved products to take to market quickly and efficiently.
Technology Drivers. These companies take a generally more self-reliant, inward-looking approach, impelled largely by their desire to develop new products based on the latest advances in technology. The key is to gain a broad understanding of what’s possible, and to use that understanding to direct their own R&D
Cross disciplinary teams may be simply applying discipline knowledge to new contexts
The social scientists hired into business schools established their careers by applying their specialty, but not by producing general management knowledge; instead, they just reiterated their previous perspective. The economists hired into business schools acted even more like economists once they were here. The same goes for sociologists and psychologists

Application, learnings and guidelines
Application of neuroscience to marketing ???Neuroscience in practice (summary version) Thom Noble
There has long been dissatisfaction with mainstream traditional techniques. We need to dig deeper and get a firmer grip on how emotion and the sub-conscious helps shape our perceptions and motivations.
Crafting emotionally-based questioning into surveys may have helped to a degree, but, by not directly tapping into the non-conscious, there's still the age-old reliance on post-cognitive, rationalised interpretations.
When used judiciously, these new non-articulated neuro-based techniques can potentially be transformational in revealing new insights to better understand consumer response.
